Coast 2 Coast 2003
The second run of the ukLANDROVERevents Coast to Coast Land Rover Run was held on 7th-8th June 2003.
11 Land Rovers joined this years convoy in our journey from the West coast to the East coast of Northern England. Starting at St Bees on the Saturday lunchtime, the vehicles met up and all looked ready for the 2 day trip ahead of us.
This year the convoy had a vast array of Land Rovers. 90's, Disco's, Rangie's, Freelanders, a Lightweight, a Series III and a 101FC Ambulance.

The 101FC Ambulance certainly attracted some attention, especially from the ukLANDROVERevents team. This fine example of an increasingly rare vehicle is owned by Vic & Linda Nicholson who live just a few miles from the start of our run. Handy you might think, but remember they've got to get home from the other side of the country tomorrow!
The Series III, owned by Tony and Mel Rudd was in truly remarkable condition. No wonder this vehicle won 3rd Best Series III at the Bramham Park LRO show a few weeks ago.

So, we're underway and within the first few miles, some sheep decide to join our convoy. Not made by Land Rover though, so we have to leave them behind (eventually), and continue our journey without them!

Honister Pass is a steep and winding road in the Lake
District, and it's a definate favourite of the ukLANDROVERevents team.
A quick stop the other side to check on any raised temperature gauges, and also
a fantastic photo opportunity.

The run continues to our first stop at Pooley Bridge on the edge of Ullswater, said by many to be "England's most beautiful lake".

We arrive at our overnight stop at Kirkby Stephen in plenty of time to set up camp. The ukLANDROVERevents camp was already prepared, so we could get on with the very important task of lighting the barbeque! After much hiding with the camera, a (rare) photo of Colin cooking was obtained! (Never to be repeated).

After a good nights food, drink and Land Rover chat, we're ready for the off again. The vehicles line up, and are seen off by the other campers and the campsite owners as we head off into our second National Park of the weekend. This time it's the Yorkshire Dales.

We pass through Swaledale, and before we know it, we're moving onto National Park 3, the North York Moors. A lunch stop at the Lord Stone's Cafe and Country Park at Carlton Bank gives a much needed break, and more photo opportunities. A local Land Rover owner who couldn't join us, but had heard about the run even met us there to see how we were getting along. A big thank you goes to the management and staff at the Lord Stone's Cafe for once again allowing us out onto the moor itself with our vehicles.

Lunch over, and we're onto our final leg of the journey.
There seems to have been a switch of passengers in two of the vehicles.
Was Linda Nicholson wanting to sample the luxury of Jonathan & Catherine
Ben-David's fully prepared 50th Anniversary Defender 90 V8?
Or was it Jonathan & Catherines 2 sons wanting to sample the fun of riding
up front in the 101FC Ambulance?
We're not quite sure which way round it was, but we're confident they all
enjoyed the swap around!
If you were there on this years Coast 2 Coast, thanks for making it an enjoyable weekend for all concerned, and we hope to see you all again soon on another event.
